SLOW KINETIC RATES

- Experimental studies with phenanthrene have

found that binding of about 25% occurs after

6 months, even when the samples were irradiated

(no biodegradation)

- Enzymes for initial hydrolysis were active even

when cells were killed

- Kinetic rates are faster for pesticides which have

acid, aldehyde, or alcohol groups present or when

the compounds can be hydrolyzed non-enzymatically
