On October 24, 2003, the following members of the Remediation Technologies Development Forum's
(RTDF's) Sediments Remediation Action Team met in a conference call:

OVERVIEW
Members of the Sediments Remediation Action Team met via conference call to discuss the logistics of
the Sediments Remediation Action Team meeting that will be held in Baltimore, Maryland. (This
meeting, which will take place on February 18 and 19, 2004, will feature a workshop on in situ treatment
technologies. In addition, speakers will provide updates and discuss general business items that are
relevant to the Sediments Remediation Action Team.) Call participants also talked briefly about the
papers that the Natural Recovery Subgroup hopes to post on the RTDF Web site. A number of action
items were identified during the call.
ACTION ITEMS
Action Items Related to the Sediments Remediation Action Team Meeting
Call participants agreed that the following must be done to prepare for the Action Team meeting:
- Secure meeting room space. ERG will secure meeting room space and sleeping rooms.
- Finalize and distribute the meeting invitation. John Davis will send ERG comments on the meeting
invitation that was distributed to Action Team leaders prior to the conference call. ERG will revise
the invitation and send it back to the Action Team leaders for a final review. After receiving
approval, ERG will distribute the invitation letter to the entire Action Team membership. This will
be done by October 30, 2003.
- Decide on a format for the workshop and identify potential speakers and special attendees. Call
participants spent most of the call discussing the format that should be used for the in situ treatment
technologies workshop. They talked about structuring the workshop so that critical evaluations would
be provided for different technologies. Toward this end, they agreed, it would be useful to provide a
short overview of each technology and then open discussion up to a panel of users and consultants.
Kelly Madalinski agreed to propose a format for the workshop and to distribute something in writing
to the Action Team leaders by October 27, 2003. In his proposal, Madalinski will group topics
together and list potential speakers and panel members. Davis and Nancy Grosso agreed to do some
work to help Madalinski identify potential speakers and panelists. For example, Davis will contact
Jeff Talley to inquire about the work he is performing, and Grosso will contact Ash Jain and Larry
McShea. Call participants also agreed that it is important that certain people attend, even if they are
not slated as speakers or panel members. These "special attendees," they agreed, should be contacted
by phone and encouraged to attend. Call participants agreed to start compiling a list of special
attendees.
- Identify key questions and goals that should be addressed during the workshop. Davis agreed to
develop a list of the questions and key issues that should be discussed at the workshop. Davis will
distribute the list to the Action Team leaders for review before October 29, 2003.
- Set up another conference call. ERG will set up the next conference call for October 29, 2003. The
call will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Madalinski will call Dennis
Timberlake to make sure he is aware of the call. During the conference call, participants will come to
consensus on the meeting agenda, the list of speakers, the workshop speakers, and the key questions
that will be tackled during the workshop. Also during the call, the Action Team leaders will
determine who will extend an official invitation to each speaker.
- Advertise the meeting. ERG will arrange to have the Sediments Remediation Action Team meeting advertised on the RTDF Web site, the Clu-In Web site, and, if possible, the Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP) Web site. Madalinski will arrange to have the meeting advertised through TechDirect.
Other Action Items
- Madalinski will send call participants a case study that describes a project performed in Charleston, South Carolina.
- Madalinski will continue to work with Timberlake to set up the review process for the Natural
Recovery Subgroup's papers.
