SUMMARY OF THE REMEDIATION TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPMENT FORUM
SEDIMENTS REMEDIATION ACTION TEAM
CONFERENCE CALL

1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m.
October 9, 2003

On October 9, 2003, the following members of the Remediation Technologies Development Forum's (RTDF's) Sediments Remediation Action Team met in a conference call:

Nancy Grosso, DuPont (Action Team Co-chair)
John Davis, The Dow Chemical Company
Kelly Madalinski, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Christine Hartnett of ERG was also present.

THE NEXT SEDIMENTS REMEDIATION ACTION TEAM MEETING

The next Sediments Remediation Action Team meeting will be held in Baltimore, Maryland. Call participants preferred that the meeting happen on February 18 and 19, 2004, though they agreed that February 25 and 26 would be an acceptable alternative.

Prior to the conference call, John Davis distributed a preliminary meeting agenda to the Action Team leadership. As noted on the agenda, the meeting will consist of general updates and a workshop on in situ treatment technologies for contaminated sediments. Kelly Madalinski and Nancy Grosso agreed that the agenda, after some minor tweaking, is acceptable to distribute to the entire Action Team. Call participants reviewed the list of people who have been identified as potential speakers. In the process, they identified some new candidates. Before the end of the month, they agreed, the Action Team leaders will divide up the list of potential speakers and contact each of them to invite them to the meeting. Once the agenda is further developed, an updated version should be redistributed to all Action Team members. In this next iteration of the agenda, Grosso said, it would be useful to list questions and issues that attendees will be expected to ponder during the workshop. After the workshop concludes, Madalinski said, he will take the lead in developing a white paper on active treatment technologies.

THE NATURAL RECOVERY SUBGROUP'S PAPERS

The Natural Recovery Subgroup recently presented papers on monitored natural recovery at a meeting in Venice, Italy. Madalinski said that he would like to see the papers posted on the RTDF Web site. Davis and Grosso expressed much enthusiasm for this idea. Before the papers can be posted, however, EPA must review and approve them. Madalinski agreed to take the lead in setting up the review process.
