Sediments are the “ultimate sinks” for wide
variety of contaminants - PAHs, Pesticides, PCBs,
Aromatic hydrocarbons, Phthalate esters, metals,
cyanides, organometals, etc.
Sediments contamination is widespread - about 10%
of all sediments underlying surface waters pose
potential risks to fish, humans and wildlife.
