On February 5, 2004, the following members of the Remediation Technologies Development Forum's (RTDF's) Sediments Remediation Action Team met in a conference call:

Nancy Grosso, DuPont (Action Team Co-chair)
Dennis Timberlake, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (Action Team Co-chair)

Kelly Madalinski, EPA
Carolyn Perroni of Environmental Management Support, Inc. (EMS) and Michelle Arbogast of ERG were also present.

THE NEXT SEDIMENTS REMEDIATION ACTION TEAM MEETING

The next Sediments Remediation Action Team Meeting will be held on February 18-19, 2004, in Baltimore, Maryland. A workshop will be held during the meeting, the goals of which were discussed during this conference call. Call participants agreed that the basic goal of the workshop should be to attain information on the development and application of in situ technologies that can be used to address contaminated sediments. The "stretch" goal, they agreed, should be to discuss opportunities for partnerships and funding, with the ultimate goal of conducting field demonstrations.

The call participants agreed that Carolyn Perroni should facilitate the meeting to help the attendees meet the goals of the workshop. They agreed that her role should be twofold: (1) make sure the meeting attendees adhere to the agenda and (2) ensure that the presentations and discussion sessions focus on the questions that are listed in the agenda. John Davis volunteered to bring a poster to the meeting that lists these questions.

The call participants talked about writing a technical review paper that captures the information discussed during the workshop. They agreed to generate an outline for the paper before the meeting. Nancy Grosso will generate and distribute a draft outline. Kelly Madalinski volunteered to take the lead in writing the paper. In an effort to document all the issues that are discussed during the workshop, call participants agreed, ERG should take detailed notes at the meeting and Perroni should encourage audience members to use microphones so that everyone can hear the discussion.

Call participants noted that a "Miscellaneous Business Items" session will be included on the meeting agenda, and that the following topics will be discussed:

Madalinski asked call participants to let him know if there are additional topics that should be discussed.

Madalinski updated the call participants with the status of the presentations, noting that Randy Parker's presentation (Development of a Framework for Evaluation of Electrochemical Remediation Technologies for Treatment of In Situ Sediments at the Log Pond Site, Puget Sound, WA) is still tentative. Madalinski plans to send the presenters a courtesy e-mail with the current number of attendees and will ask them to send short abstracts and to allow time for questions.

The call participants agreed to add a 30 minute group discussion to the meeting agenda after the first three presentations in the Chemical/Biological Approaches section and to shorten the group discussion at 4:25 p.m. to 30 minutes.
