SUMMARY OF THE REMEDIATION TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPMENT FORUM
PERMEABLE REACTIVE BARRIERS ACTION TEAM
STEERING COMMITTEE CONFERENCE CALL
10:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m.
February 8, 2006
On Wednesday, February 8, 2006, the following members of the Remediation Technologies Development Forum's Permeable Reactive Barriers (PRB) Action Team's Steering Committee met in a conference call:
Bob Puls, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (Action Team Co-chair)
John Vidumsky, DuPont (Action Team Co-chair)
Tom Krug, GeoSyntec
Richard Steimle, EPA
Matt Turner, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection
Also participating in the call was Christine Hartnett from ERG.
FUNDING ISSUES
Richard Steimle said that EPA plans to eliminate contractor support for the RTDF in the near future. Once this happens, RTDF teams will be asked to fund their own meetings and to develop their own summaries. Steimle was unsure how the cuts would impact support for the RTDF Web site but indicated that he would find out and let call participants know. In some instances, Steimle said, EPA might be able to provide support to an RTDF team on an ad hoc basis if a special need arises (e.g., if an expert consultant is needed to assist with an RTDF product).
NEXT PRB ACTION TEAM MEETING
Call participants talked about holding a PRB Action Team meeting in fall 2006. Bob Puls said that he could probably secure funds to support that meeting, but that funding for subsequent meetings would need to be determined on a meeting-by-meeting basis. Many of the call participants said they planned to attend the Battelle conference that is taking place in Monterey, California, in May 2006; they agreed to hold an informal meeting at that conference to discuss the fall 2006 PRB Action Team meeting in more detail. The goal for the Monterey meeting session will be twofold: (1) determine whether a fall 2006 PRB Action Team meeting is indeed warranted and, if so, (2) identify potential agenda topics and speakers.
