SUMMARY OF THE REMEDIATION TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPMENT FORUM
IN-PLACE INACTIVATION AND NATURAL ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION

CONFERENCE CALL

Updates

Harry Compton (US EPA) discussed the possibility of a field site in Utah and is in the process of gathering more information on the site. The Pb and As in the soil are a result of smelting and mining operations. Lead is the driver for the site. Average Pb concentrations are around 0.8%. Soil-Pb bioavailability is low.

Sally Brown (USDA-ARS) updated us on the status of the plant and soil samples her group collected at the Joplin field research site (JFRS). Plant samples have been digested and are in the process of being analyzed. Soil samples have been prepared for bioaccessibility measurements.

SOIL SURVEY

The soil survey is just about ready to be sent out to everyone on the mailing list.

SBRC

The protocol for performing bioaccessibility that is being validated by the Solubility Bioavailability Research Consortium should be available in another 2 to 3 weeks. There are a few areas of the protocol that need clarification. Once that is done and the protocol is sent to testing labs for validation, it will also be made available to others who are interested in it.

NEXT IINERT MEETING

We discussed having the next IINERT RTDF meeting January 21-22 in Las Vegas, NV. Looks like that’s the plan. We will send out an invitation to everyone on the mailing list the week of Dec. 8.

CONFERENCE CALLS

We discussed whether changing the monthly conference calls from the second Thursday of the month to a Monday or Friday would work better for more people. Doe anyone have a regular conflict with the second Monday of the month at 1:30? Please comment to Bill Berti (DuPont) and suggest other days or times. I will need your comments quickly to schedule the January call.

NEXT CONFERENCE CALL

. . . . . . is scheduled for Thursday December 11 from 1:30 to 2:30 eastern standard time. The call-in number is 202/260-7280 5883#.
