SUMMARY OF THE REMEDIATION TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPMENT FORUM
PERMEABLE REACTIVE BARRIERS ACTION TEAM
STEERING COMMITTEE CONFERENCE CALL
3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
July 8, 2003
On Tuesday, July 8, 2003, the following members of the Remediation Technologies Development
Forum's Permeable Reactive Barriers (PRB) Action Team met in a conference call:
Bob Puls, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (Action Team Co-chair)
John Vidumsky, DuPont (Action Team Co-chair)
  Tom Krug, GeoSyntec
  Bob Gillham, University of Waterloo
Stephen White, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Also participating in the call was Christine Hartnett from ERG.
  NEXT PRB ACTION TEAM MEETING
Call participants discussed the logistics of the next PRB Action Team meeting,
which will take place in Niagara Falls, New York, on October 15 and 16, 2003.
They decided that the following should be done to prepare for the meeting:
- Secure meeting room space at the Holiday Inn Select. Christine Hartnett said that ERG will ensure that this is done.
- Distribute an invitation. Hartnett agreed to develop a draft invitation
and distribute it to the call participants for review. Once approved, the
invitation will be distributed to the entire PRB Action Team contact list.
Call participants said that the invitation should include a request for poster
and paper abstracts. It should also include a brief description of the sessions
that are scheduled for the meeting. These sessions will span four topical
areas: (1) hydraulics, (2) source zone management, (3) novel applications,
    and (4) long-term PRB performance.
- Try to identify a sponsor. Call participants agreed that it would
be nice if a sponsor provided refreshments during coffee breaks and/or the
poster session. Bob Gillham agreed to contact one group to find out if they
would be interested in sponsoring these events.
- Set up another call to discuss the meeting agenda. Call participants
decided to hold another call on August 6, 2003, to discuss the meeting agenda
in more detail. ERG will set up this conference call.
- Advertize the meeting. Bob Puls asked Hartnett to find out whether
a meeting announcement can be posted on the RTDF Web site and EPA's Clu-In
site. He also asked her to find out whether the meeting could be advertized
through TechDirect. Hartnett agreed to follow up. Tom Krug said that a representative
from the Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP) has
agreed to add a link for the PRB meeting to the ESTCP Web site. Hartnett agreed
to let Krug know when the announcement is available.
