SUMMARY OF THE REMEDIATION TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPMENT FORUM
PERMEABLE REACTIVE BARRIERS ACTION TEAM
STEERING COMMITTEE CONFERENCE CALL

11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
August 15, 2002

On Thursday, August 15, 2002, the following members of the Remediation Technologies Development Forum's (RTDF's) Permeable Reactive Barriers (PRB) Action Team met in a conference call:

Bob Puls, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (Action Team Co-chair)
Bruce Sass, Battelle
Tim Sivavec, General Electric Corporate Remediation
Stephen White, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Also participating in the call were Carl Spreng of the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment and Christine Hartnett from Eastern Research Group, Inc. (ERG).

THE NEXT PRB ACTION TEAM MEETING

The next PRB Action Team meeting will be held in conjunction with the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Cooperation (ITRC) conference that is scheduled to take place November 6 through 8, 2002, in Washington, D.C. Call participants expressed interest in holding three sessions: (1) a Steering Committee meeting, (2) a general meeting, and (3) a poster session.

Steering Committee Meeting

Bob Puls said that the PRB Steering Committee will meet on the evening of November 5, 2002. A small room will be reserved to accommodate the group.

The General Meeting

The RTDF's general meeting is scheduled for:

The general meeting will consist of four sessions:

Carl Spreng, who leads the ITRC's Radionuclides Work Group, said that the long-term performance session is of particular interest to his work group. He also said that his work group would only be able to participate in the RTDF meeting during the morning of November 6 or the afternoon of November 7. Puls said that an effort will be made to schedule the long-term performance session for one of these time slots.

Call participants agreed that it would be ideal to allow 30 minutes per presentation. If six speakers are identified for each thematic session, however, the time slots reserved for the RTDF meeting will prove insufficient. As a result, Puls said, it may be necessary to schedule fewer than six speakers for some of the thematic sessions. He and Sivavec discussed limiting the monitoring session to four speakers.

The Poster Session

Call participants expressed strong interest in holding a poster session on the night of November 6, 2002. Puls asked ERG to determine whether this would be possible and how much space would be available for the session. ERG agreed to follow up on this action item as soon as possible.
